If all other human performance factors are equal– bodily proportions, neurological efficiency, cardiovascular ability, and skill - the stronger athlete will will. Absolutely nothing can be done to improve either bodily proportions or neurological efficiency; they are genetic in nature. However, something can be done about the other three factors. Skill is developed through proper coaching and PRACTICE. Cardiovascular ability is increased through the conditioning program, running and playing. Muscular strength can also be increased through a conscientious, properly executed strength-training program.
Fortunately, of all the requirements that contribute to a superior athlete, strength is the easiest to improve.
